nbn fibre upgrade
Find out if your address can move to nbn full fibre.
nbn co is replacing the copper lead in with fibre at many addresses on Fibre to the Node and Fibre to the Curb. The address check tells you straight away whether yours is one of them.
How it works
Check, order, and nbn co builds the fibre.
Check your address
We ask nbn co about your exact premises. If it can be upgraded, the plans that come with the upgrade are shown first and marked, alongside the plans that run on the line you have today. Whether an address qualifies is nbn co’s decision, not ours.
Order a plan that qualifies
The upgrade is ordered with your plan. You choose the technician window when you order, from nbn co’s own availability, and you can move it from your account afterwards.
Stay connected while it is built
Your existing service keeps working until the fibre is live. If the service at your address is yours, we move it to us first, usually within a business day, and then book the upgrade, so there is nothing for you to cancel. Do not cancel the old service yourself: it is switched off when the fibre goes live. Until the fibre is live you pay for the plan your existing line runs on, which you choose when you order. The price of your fibre plan starts the day the fibre goes live.
What it costs
No charge for the standard build, on one condition.
At an eligible address, nbn co builds the fibre lead in and fits the connection box at no charge to you when you order a plan that qualifies. The build is given in exchange for staying on a qualifying plan for 12 months. If you move to a plan that does not qualify, or cancel, inside 12 months of the fibre going live, we charge $264 inc GST. After 12 months the condition ends.
- A technician visit is part of the upgrade and an adult needs to be home for it. If the appointment is missed, or changed too late, a charge of $99 inc GST applies.
- Your plan is month to month with no lock in contract. The 12 month condition above is the only commitment, and it applies only to a service that took the upgrade.
- Where nbn co needs work beyond its standard installation at your premises, we get the price, tell you the amount, and nothing happens until you approve it.
On the day
What the technician does.
The technician runs the fibre from the street to your home, fits a small box outside and a connection box inside, usually near where the line comes in, and tests it. The connection box needs a power point.
When the fibre is live, plug your router into the connection box. There is no username or password to enter. Our setup guide covers the router settings if you bring your own.
The service does not work in a power failure. If you have a medical or security alarm on your current line, talk to the alarm provider before you upgrade; we ask about this when you order. We do not offer Priority Assistance; Telstra does.
If your address is not eligible
Some addresses are not in nbn co’s upgrade programme and some are already on fibre. Either way the address check shows every plan of ours your address can take today, and you can order one of those.
Before you order
Read these first.
Before you order, read the Key Facts Sheet. The agreement and the Critical Information Summary for your plan set out the upgrade condition in full; they are shown and accepted at the review step and emailed to you with your Order Confirmation.
