nbn · Setup

Your own router on nbn, connected in a minute.

Our nbn services connect automatically. There is no username, no password and no VLAN to type in.

1. Plug in

  • Fibre to the Premises, HFC, Fibre to the Curb, nbn Fixed Wireless: run an Ethernet cable from the nbn connection box (the UNI-D port, port 1 unless we told you otherwise) to your router's WAN or Internet port.
  • Fibre to the Node or Building: plug your VDSL2 modem router into the phone wall socket with the phone cable. No filter is needed unless you still have a landline on the same line. Your modem must be one nbn co has registered for use on its network; most current VDSL2 modem routers sold in Australia are, and we can check a model for you before you order.

2. Set the connection to automatic

In your router's internet or WAN settings choose Automatic, DHCP or IPoE. Leave VLAN tagging off. Leave username and password blank. On a VDSL2 modem, set the mode to VDSL, PTM, and again DHCP or IPoE, no VLAN.

Most routers do this out of the box: if the internet light comes on after a minute, you are done.

3. Not connecting?

  • Give it two minutes after plugging in, then power the router off and on once.
  • Check the cable is in the WAN port, not a LAN port, and on the nbn box in the port we named.
  • If your router was on another provider that used PPPoE, delete that connection profile and create an automatic one.
  • Still nothing? Message us from My Account or email enquiries@digitalsoulaustralia.com.au. We can see your connection from our side and test it from there.

Your service uses shared public addressing (carrier grade NAT). If you need your own public IPv4 address, add a static IP from your account for $10 a month. nbn® is a registered trade mark of nbn co limited.
