nbn · Static IP guide
CGNAT, and how to add a static IP.
Your nbn service uses shared public addressing by default. Here is what that means, who needs a static IP instead, and how to add one.
What CGNAT is
Your service uses carrier grade NAT (CGNAT) by default, which means the public IPv4 address is shared with other customers. Most households will not notice.
Why we use it by default
Public IPv4 addresses are limited, so nbn services are connected behind a shared address by default across the industry. We do the same, and add a static IP for anyone who needs one.
Who needs a static IP
CGNAT can affect hosting a server or a game server at home, some VPNs, and remote access to cameras or other devices at home. If none of that applies to you, most households will not notice a difference.
How to add one
A static IPv4 address is $10 a month inc GST. Add it when you order, or later from your account. It is applied within one business day, and your connection drops for a few minutes at the moment it is applied.
Check your address, or add a static IP
Check your address for our nbn plans, or sign in to your account to add a static IP to an existing service.
nbn®, nbn co and the nbn logo are trade marks of nbn co limited and are used under licence. Digital Soul Australia is a retail service provider and is not nbn co.
